The ACOFP Intensive Update and Board Review meant a lot to me and many others over the years. There was so much kinship and camaraderie that made this conference special—like a big family getting back together again each and every year. And, as families do, we had many discussions of what “our family” would like for future conferences, receiving tremendous feedback and suggestions. From those conversations, we have made some changes.

I would like to introduce our newly-formatted conference: the ACOFP Intensive Osteopathic Update (IOU). This exciting event will feature presentations helpful to those practicing in a wide variety of clinical locations—including office, hospital, urgent care or emergency department settings—and may help satisfy various state requirements on specific topics such as diversity and inclusion, pain management and telemedicine.

This year’s program will cover four tracks:

  1. Evidenced-based family medicine, providing updates on a wide variety of topics—many with built-in audience participation. There will be modules on issues relating to pediatrics, women’s health, men’s health and new practice guidelines.
  2. Practice management, focusing on growing your practice and delivering the best possible care, with modules covering topics such as billing and coding, telemedicine and ethics.
  3. Health and wellness, featuring interactive sessions to ensure you keep your mind, body and spirit in the best possible shape. This track will include modules on resilience, managing family dynamics, burnout and more.
  4. OMT, providing level-one and next-level content and demonstrations with live Q&A from satellite practices across the country. These modules will cover OMT for respiratory, extremities, cervical/thoracic and other areas. Plus, all full-conference registrants receive a complimentary subscription to OMTotal through 2020!

The extra good news is that IOU is designed around your schedule. To minimize time away from work and to practice safe social distancing precautions during the pandemic, this year’s event will take place completely virtually over two weekends in August (Aug. 14–16 and Aug. 21–23). There is an option to watch the presentations live and in real-time or to watch the presentations at your convenience according to you own schedule on-demand. View the schedule-at-a-glance.

Whether you are a resident, new to the family medicine profession or have been helping patients for years, IOU is for you. Please join us for a comprehensive offering of continuing medical education that is personalized just for you—a holistic approach to education.
